“Reversing the Damage: How Planting Trees on Earth Day Can Empower Us to Fight the Climate Crisis and Restore the Planet”

Earth Day is a globally recognized event that was initiated by Gaylord Nelson, a United States Senator from Wisconsin, in 1970. The main objective of Earth Day is to raise awareness about environmental issues and promote efforts to protect the planet. The first Earth Day event mobilized millions of Americans to take action on environmental issues and was instrumental in the establishment of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the passage of key environmental legislation, including the Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, and Endangered Species Act.

Today, Earth Day is celebrated annually on April 22nd and is observed by millions of people worldwide. It serves as a reminder of our collective responsibility to care for the Earth and its resources for the benefit of ourselves and future generations. Earth Day provides an opportunity for individuals, organizations, and governments to take action on environmental issues, raise awareness about the importance of environmental protection, and promote sustainable practices.

The Viswagandha Foundation’s plantation drive on Earth Day is a commendable initiative that honors the legacy of Earth Day by taking concrete action to combat climate change and preserve the environment. By planting trees, the Foundation is contributing to reducing carbon emissions, promoting biodiversity, and improving ecosystem health, which in turn benefits our physical and mental well-being. This is a positive step towards creating a more sustainable future for ourselves and future generations.

On April 22nd, 2022, the Durgapur Viswagandha Science Society organized a tree plantation drive at Troika Park, where more than 50 trees were planted.
